Your role is the Evil Demon and you have to build and manage your empire(your dungeon) and destroy all good Heros that come in your way that may stop your Evil plans. You train your creatures and build specific rooms with specific abilities for them. Your creatures will gain levels that will make them stronger with more abilities. There is even a mode where you can go into the spirit of 1 of your creatures and you get to play 1st person view. You complete your game by playing level by level.
