Synopsis from the book jacket:

The life of the Princess of Wales has been widely chronicled. Her transition through marriage to Prince Charles, from shy schoolgirl and knodergarten teacher to a hardworking, modern woman, is well-known -- successfully reconciling the conflicting demands of royalty and humanity, of traditional values and the contemporary world, of being the world's most celebrated cover girl and a good attentive mother. No-one, though, has been able to write about the private Diana because no outsider has been allowed past the confines of her inner circle of family and friends.

Lady Colin Campbell, however, former wife of Lord Colin Campbell, son of the Duke of Argyll, enjoys personal access to mahy of the first rank of the Royal Family and their immediate circle. She has drawn on her intimate knowledge to write the first true account of the Princess's life and marriage. In detailing Diana's relationships with members of the Spencer family, and with her husband and friends, past and present, Lady Colin Campbell sweeps aside the myth of the fairytale princess to make way for the real Diana.

This book in no way diminishes the respect and affection which Diana attracts but it does fundamentally change our perception of her.
